You’re invited to our Halloween Costume Contest on Friday, October 31st in SRYE 5050! 🎃
This year’s theme is sustainability; we challenge you to get creative and design a costume that’s eco-friendly! Think recycled materials, thrifted pieces, DIY designs, or costumes that promote environmental awareness.
Prizes will be awarded for the most creative and sustainable costumes.
 
        
      
      TECHCONNECT SESSION - LINKEDIN HACKS
Join us for the final TechConnect session of the term, LinkedIn Hacks. In this workshop, you will learn how to optimize your LinkedIn profile to attract employers! We will discuss profile tips, job-search hacks, and industry insights on desirable skill sets. A photographer will be on-site to provide free professional headshots.       SFU Engineering Competition
Dear MSE students, MSESS are excited to annouce our annual SFU-wide engineering competition. It will be taking place from November 15th at 9:00 am through to November 16th at 9:00 pm in the SUB ballroom on the Burnaby campus. More details will be announced later, but for now, the categories are Jr.\Sr. Design, Programming, Consulting, and Re-engineering. Keep you eye out for more announcements.       MSE Colloquium Series: Integrated Modeling, Design Optimization, and Optimal Control for Clean Marine Propulsion
Zuomin Dong, Ph.D. (SUNY Buffalo), is Professor and past Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria, a member of the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems, and a CSME Fellow. His research focuses on optimizing hybrid electric vehicles, marine vessels, hydrogen fuel cell systems, and advanced manufacturing. His team develops integrated modeling, design optimization, and real-time control methods for next-generation green ships and electrified vehicles, enhancing energy efficiency, reducing emissions and noise, and leveraging advanced optimization and AI techniques.

MSE Colloquium Series: From Exoskeletons to Humanoids: Unlocking the Next Frontier in AI-Powered Robotics
Dr. Arzanpour is a leading expert in dynamic systems modeling, signal processing, modern control, and intelligent systems. His research spans vibration control, haptic systems, biomedical devices, smart materials, and the application of machine learning in system identification and control.
In 2016, he co-founded Human in Motion Robotics Inc., a company dedicated to developing advanced robotic exoskeletons that restore mobility and independence to individuals with motion impairments. Under his technical leadership, the company designed XoMotion, one of the world’s most advanced lower-limb exoskeletons capable of enabling natural walking for people with severe mobility disabilities.
Dr. Arzanpour is also the recipient of the Innovation to Commercialization Award from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, recognizing his dedication to translational research that improves lives.

SFU FAS TechConnect is a student-experience program aimed to ease your transition into the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) at SFU. Each session is aimed at helping you to make the most of your university experience - socially, academically, and professionally.
In the upcoming session, "Term Kick-Off," you will explore essential communication tips for university life. Through fun simulation activities in small groups, you will build peer connections and compete for prizes along the way!
